What is magnetic encoder?

A magnetic encoder is a sensor that measures displacement of its own shaft or scale by using magnetic fields interaction.

On disk or a scale special magnetic poles are placed. The motion is recorded while poles are passing through sensitive sensor.

A huge advantage of magnetic sensors is absence of contacts between the main parts, which allow using device in harsh environments. Accuracy of encoders depends on distance at which poles are located.

Magnetic sensors, according to the principle of action, can be rotary or linear. By way of issuing information it can also be absolute and incremental.
